I began writing as a hobby at a very young age. I was always an avid reader, but the idea of being a writer never really crossed my mind—especially not a YA fantasy fiction writer. I initially went to college thinking that I would graduate with a degree in Political Science, but somewhere along the way my path took an unexpected turn. In 2010 I graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor's degree in Classics thinking that I would be the next Howard Carter.
Oh, what amusing ideas I had in those days!
Problems with my health prompted my move from Charleston, South Carolina to northeast Georgia immediately after graduation. After undergoing an operation on my knee, I enrolled at the University of Georgia. My dreams of being the next Howard Carter dashed, I decided that a career as a teacher better suited my abilities. I declared my intention to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English Education only to quickly discover that the teaching wasn’t the right fit for me after all.
Two knee surgeries and a bout of bacterial meningitis later I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Georgia in December 2013. With more surgeries looming on the horizon, I realized that my health would never permit me to work a normal job.
I have since had two additional knee surgeries (including a total knee replacement) which makes for a total of five in as many years. Over the years, from waiting rooms to hospital recovery rooms, I continue writing. What began as a hobby slowly blossomed into a true passion. Writing became my outlet, my escape. It was one of the few things that helped me through some incredibly difficult times.
I am extremely fortunate to have a loyal and understanding family who support me in all things. Without their generosity and love none of my novels would have ever come into existence.
In my free time I like to collect perfume, Nendoroids (petite character figures from Japan), and play with my cat, Bubbles. When I’m not posting pictures of Bubbles on Twitter I’m usually researching or doing my favorite thing in the entire world: sleeping. My favorite color is spring green, and my favorite season is spring. I love Japanese and French cuisine. Atonement, Titanic, The Imitation Game, and Moulin Rouge are some of my favorite movies while The Borgias, The Tudors, Rome, Spartacus, Downton Abbey, and Black Sails number among my favorite television shows.
And the last little tidbit of information I care to share about myself is that I consider snow to be absolutely magical. Nothing makes me happier than seeing big fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky!
